Past Success Stories at Mary S Young

Down by the Riverside  a great Success May 17, 2008

December 1st, 10 people showed up on a cold morning to finishing pulling the ivy in the area between the paved parking lot and the restrooms.

Thank you to:
1. Starbucks for providing funding for tools, trees and rocks.
2. Monday trail work parties who faithfully move heavy wheelbarrows of gravel.
3. Eleven Clackamas County Community Service crews for cutting ivy off hundreds of trees.

Accomplishments as of December 1, 2007:
1. Ivy has been cut off over half of the 100 acres of trees setting it back one year.
2. Ivy has been pulled in 7 areas surrounded by trails, roads and creeks.

What a great day in November for Mary S Young Park and a terrible day for the Ivy!
25 Starbucks employees and 35 other community volunteers pulling Ivy for 4 hours. We can now say we have slowed the spread of ground ivy.

Thank you in November to:
1. Rosemont Ridge Middle School 7th graders who pulled Ivy on October 3rd, 2007
2. Portland General Electric for the $500 Employee Volunteer Grant
3. City of West Linn for providing gravel and wheel barrows for trail work
4. Starbucks for providing coffee for our volunteer work force
5. To all the people who have joined in the park restoration work.
